Its a 6 month difference between BY and SY. At the highest levels this isnt that big of a deal.

You assume that if MLSN stays BY that ECNL or whatever league will ever play against MLSN teams again. I'll let you in it wont happen. MLS clubs will host their own BY tournaments which SY teams will be welcome to attend but YOU'LL be forced to play 6 months up.

If players want to play professionally they'll be forced to play for MLS at some point or get ignored. Even if you want to play in college you're in a better position to get noticed playing for MLS than other leagues. Lather rinse repeat and this will keep growing.

Other leagues are like swimming upstream if you want to play at the next level. MLS is live going upstream in a motorboat. Which in the end allows for more opportunities.[/quote]

I actually think MLSN p2p might switch to SY. But not because SY is in any way better than BY. I think it would make it easier for all the ECNL clubs that want to switch to MLSN/GA. If you dont have this switching leagues would require redoing all the rosters.[/quote]
Actually the more I think about it the more it makes sense for MLSN to let p2p clubs choose if they want to be BY or SY. The only catch would be that Events and League would be BY. This way everyone gets what they want and if clubs want to stay closer to SY because they like to play against those teams  in tournaments fine. It will make things a little more difficult in MLSN league and events but playing up 6 months isn't that big of a deal. With biobanding whats the difference?[/quote]

Yes true and most clubs wanted August 1st in order to align everything within their club.  then the idea of how to play the rogue clubs became a cluster  Not well thought out, but not surprising as MLS hasn’t been in the youth soccer space for very long.  There is NOTHING magical about EITHER cutoff, but having two different ones creates unnecessary problems for everyone.[/quote]

Absolutely. US Soccer really messed this up by leaving it up to each league. Kids having to skip an age group to move back and forth between systems, potentially only getting 1 year at 9v9, it’s ridiculous and I can’t imagine this happening in any other country. 1/1, 8/1, 2/30… who cares. Pick a consistent cutoff and move onto things that are actually important to improving soccer in this country. [/quote]
