[twitter]https://twitter.com/tamisawyer/status/1742955324422689004[/twitter]
In many ways, a business or non profit executive is much more qualified to run a university than an academic professor or researcher.
Business or non-profit executives would certainly have conducted at least minimal due diligence on Dr. Gay, and discovered how paltry (just 11 highly-dubious published works) she had completed prior to becoming president, indicating a massive deficit of merit. In contrast, the only possible conclusion is the Harvard board installed Dr. Gay purely on DEI principles.
Why did New College in FL install their interim president? Was it purely on "merit"?
Obviously not. Politics. DeSantis wanted to make a point. So he installed some right wing stooge as a gift to the Trump base. Poorly educated white males. Rural, small town, exurb. Harvard is theoretically above New College or whatever it's called. But they are doing the same thing. They are hiring based on politics and race. In Harvard's case, it's DEI and all that garbage. Absolutely no different then DeSantis appointing some mediocre white male to make a point. Maybe one day talent will be the thing. But, clearly, it's not happening today. Claudine Gay was a very mediocre president for Harvard. Obviously, she got the job because of her race and gender. It really doesn't do women and black folks any favors. In 2024, it's just dumb to not go with genuine talent.
And it's going so well [twitter]https://twitter.com/craigtimes/status/1743031482929631646[/twitter] I think this is a case of "everyone's sort of terrible in this story"
