It was an attempt to elicit a reaction from Bob. Brother was so worried about inappropriate behavior, meanwhile he had "supervised" her dates for years of her married life. Nonsense. But, they thought Bob might bite and be her rescuer. So could see thing with doc was an arrangement, they all knew what she did, Otherwise doubt she would bring "dates" to her marital home.
