Resurrecting this thread, as we have a wedding in Geneva in July (just DH and I), and I'm wondering what to tack on to make it a nice holiday (about a week). Would love to travel by train from Geneva and avoid airports. Don't mind staying within Switzerland, or traveling to France or Italy. Really trying to stay away from the big cities since it is the height of tourist season. I do like exploring little villages, eating good meals, and would love to be able to rent a bike for a day or two. Any suggestions?
Annecy is a great option from there. Bus is easy and the fastest way- Flixbus probably the simplest, should be 45-60 minutes. There is a pretty commuter train now running, but it takes a pretty roundabout route and thus takes 90 minutes- the Leman Express. Once in Annecy the main part of the city is small and easily walkable. Can rent bikes and ride everywhere, and going down either side of the lake is your best option. Lots of nice places to hang out in Annecy itself, or bike to one of the towns along the lake. Bring bathing suits (and towels if you can), there are some beaches along the lake and it will be warm enough to swim. There are probably some transit options to go up the mountains also, but not quite sure about those, have driven up when in that area.
Thank you! Does Annecy area have enough to do to spend 5 days?
Good grief aren't you the least bit curious? Spend a day or two in Annoy then hit Chamonix and a million other spots nearby that have lots to see and do...
