DIY stuff is always great... DIY tacos (just buy the kits from a restaurant), make-your-own cookie sandwiches or sundaes, movie, video games if into that -- girls had MarioKart double elimination tourney this year -- karaoke machine and a bunch of quick games we already had on hand. Previous year they had pillowcases they could decorate and bath bombs they made, plus Dance Dance Revolution. I do think there needs to be access to something for them to do but try to stay out of the way to the largest extent possible and not make it seem as structured. They usually figure it out for themselves. Favors are not necessary. With that said, lip balm, bracelets, and candy are usually appreciated by that age.
Agreed with DIY - we decorated pillowcases with fabric markers one year, too, and it was a huge hit. I bought the cases from a vendor on Etsy who prints their names and cute designs on the pillowcases, got a ton of fabric markers, and cheap pillows from Target. Stuck the decorated pillowcases in the dryer while they were eating breakfast, put them on the pillows, and handed it over as they walked out the door.
