County governments and school systems are just too big and dysfunctional in most of the DC metro area. Fairfax county should be split up into multiple new counties along with Loudoun, MOCO, and Prince William. They have become too big and don’t effectively represent the interest of any of the residents very well. I think Fairfax should be split into 5 counties. Prince William should be split into 2 counties. MOCO should be split into 4 counties and Loudoun should be split into 3 parts.
Didn’t the whole Purcellville attempt to abolish their police department out of the blue teach you anything? I don’t trust town government. Give me county oversight any day.
Fairfax county is too large and a handful of counties with around 200k people each would be more responsive to voters.
Fairfax county is one of the best governmentally run units in the country. No it should not be broken up. I would expand by eliminating all of the cities in the county.
That poster was just talking about FCPS. She wants to break up into smaller school systems to further segregate the poors and keep her tax dollars benefitting wealthier areas only.
It is not one of the best run in the county. It is spending too much money and the county is going downhill.
Spending too much money on what? What do you mean it's going downhill? Be specific.
DP. Fairfax County has a rising homeless population. https://www.ffxnow.com/2025/05/09/homelessness-in-fairfax-county-still-high-post-pandemic-annual-count-finds/ Fairfax County is facing revenue problems. So much so, they have had to add a new meal tax to balance the budget. Top ranked TJHSST keeps falling in the rankings https://www.fairfaxtimes.com/articles/fairfax_county/once-the-top-ranked-school-in-the-nation-tjhsst-drops-again/article_fd196ec8-8720-11ef-b3cd-d7d8d94d068a.html All positive signs of growth, amiright?
The entire country is facing a homelessness crisis if you haven't noticed. Why would we be exempt? The new meals tax is on entertainment. Not essentials. TJ is just fine and will continue to be. In 2024 Fairfax county won an award for economic development. We have multiple fortune 500 companies here. Fairfax county GDP is $167B and has an annual growth rate of 9.3%.
Everything is fine. Everything is fine. Multiple fortune 500 companies but they employ almost no one in Fairfax County. It looks good on paper but it's basically a Potemkin village.
Yes, everything is fine. Where are you getting the idea that no one works here from these companies? Mars just moved their global HQ to Fairfax. It's not Forrune 500 because it's privately owned by they have $50 billion in sales every year. But what do they know? Multiple companies recently moved or upgraded their facilities in Fairfax county. But I guess they are spending millions for the fun of it and plan to have them sit empty
