DP.  What exactly is the hypocrisy here?  As a preface, I loath Madison Cawthorn, so this is not meant as a defense of him personally beyond this limited issue.  But personally, I believe sexuality is innate and not a choice, which means Cawthorn did not choose whether or not to be gay.  He simply is.  Hypocrisy is about conflicting actions - doing one thing for yourself but holding other people to a different standard.  Even if Madison Cawthorn has taken anti-gay stances, this would not be hypocrisy based solely on his status as gay.  Had Madison Cawthorn ever advocated for criminalizing gay sex?  Not that I’m aware of.  [b]In fact, in the past he has expressed support for gay marriage rights.  [/b]So where is the hypocrisy in that?

This isn’t about exposing hypocrisy, it’s about playing on people’s bigotry against LGBTQIA people to try to defeat an election campaign.  I would not shed a tear about Cawthorn losing the primary, but if you support gay rights, you should not be celebrating this particular smear tactic at all.  When, how and whether someone comes out is their own intensely personal, private business, and no one else should be outing a person against their will without extremely compelling reason (which this isn’t).[/quote]
