The Republican's objective was to use 'the blue state virus' to ensure a political victory over Democratically controlled states that had higher mortality rates and presumably - harsher economic impacts - from the virus. Remember at the beginning it was New York City hit hardest in March 2020 and April 2020. 40,000 New Yorkers dead in under 8 weeks. Then something miraculous happened - the wave shifted to hitting the Midwest and Southeast but by then it was too late to change things up. This strategy is backfiring on them on a scale that is becoming out of control, and they don't have a good damage-control solution to fix it, so they will ultimately take the majority of the blame for the big Delta wave.

There's a reason Texas has the 2nd highest Covid death toll in this country now and has already topped New York deaths when no one though that was possible in April 2020.[/quote]
