So you're saying that if that subplot had been with a white man you would have seen no issue?  Or that we didn't need an insight into her love life at all?

If it is the former, well you don't understand the world we live in and I'm not sure I can get into that.  If it is the later, I sort of get that, but it is always enriching to a story to see shades about characters.  If it was all about THE MAIN PLOT, that whole series would have been an hour long. I think they gave Siobhan this depth to show that despite the tragedy in her family she was still just a teenage girl, working through stuff, trying to get to the next step and work through her grief all at the same time.

I think they did give her like, one or two many too tropes, but I was actually more rolling my eyes at the 'she's in a band that performs at her dad's house and at his wedding' than the love life stuff which seemed fine. She also had a white girlfriend. Her whole story was about straddling the line between moving on the way she was and her dad was and sitting in the interminable grief the way her mom was. The pull between feeling responsible for Drew and wanting to go out on her own. I think showing this rich personal life was a way to show that. [/quote]
