And, remember, there are two additional buildings included in the purchase that could be used.  And, likely one reason KAA closed was because they were not filling the school.  So, the school was built to accommodate more students than enrolled.  While the school was not built to enroll over 2000, I'm sure adjustments could be made.  The space is there and, again, there are two additional building that could be used.  There does not appear to be anything else on Education Drive that would keep them from using that space.  This is a good purchase![/quote]

They are installing security vestibules at schools all over FCPS to try and limit foot traffic in and out of the main buildings and also installing weapon detection systems at all MS/HS, and you’re telling us the vision for KAA is to turn it into a multi-building campus?  It seems more likely the two other buildings will be used for administrative purposes.

Suggest you drive over to KAA.  It is entirely possible.  The road is pretty secure. And, the buildings could be used for storage space, etc,  Most high schools need space for theater and music storage, etc.  [/quote]

We get it. You don't want relief for this area students..  Do you really think all the space in a school is for instruction?   Neverthel3ss, if kids can go to trailers, they could go to one of these buildings[/quote]

And, guess what?  they are still adding trailers.  Would you really prefer your kid in a trailer?   Sad that you cannot be happy for neighborhoods that, hopefully will not face frequent boundary changes and long bus rides.  [/quote]

You shouldn’t accuse other people of a lack of empathy when this purchase means other capital projects will be delayed and other families will be redistricted to back-fill at least one of the schools that would send kids to a new school, assuming it’s a local school.  [/quote]

According to FCPS website, the 2023 Bond referendum funding the "planning and design" phase at Cub Run ES, Union Mill ES, Centre Ridge ES, Poplar Tree ES, Waples Mill ES, Sangster ES, Saratoga ES, Virginia Run ES, and Franklin Middle School (MS).  The pattern for the past decade or so has been consistent, the schools that get funded for "planning and design" one cycle get funded for the "construction" phase in the next cycle 2 years later.  I don't see how they could possibly maintain that and still dedicate funding to acquiring and renovating KAA. Clearly some of those planned capital projects will now be delayed.  The current CIP has the spending for a Western HS in the "Future Project Spending" column (post-FY2030).  The Western High School is the project that presumably will be skipping forward in the line, per the CIP, while others from the 2023 bond cycle will now inevitably be delayed as a result.[/quote]

My kids go to one of those schools and the school does not NEED a renovation. It could wait. I've seen worse schools that are total dumps that could use it more than our school but I don't think are even in the queue. [/quote]
