But wait everyone keeps talking about federal spending being cut [twitter]https://x.com/spencerhakimian/status/1906150441819251120?s=46&t=kf1qYlCXQnKgUhJWEIu2vg[/twitter]
Yes. Spending has been going up since Trump was inaugurated. It’s just not being spent on rural or urban Americans. Wonder what it’s being spent on??
Spending is up because people have been buying stuff ahead of the tariffs.
No. This is a reference to US government spending. Taxpayers dollars that are leaving the treasury. Monies that Trump’s government is spending despite all the DOGE cuts and destruction.
The vast majority of federal employees who have been laid off are still receiving paychecks. For now. Congress will decide whether they return to work or are totally let go. Once they get around to it. In the meantime, they are getting paid to stay home and do nothing.
While this is true, it doesn’t account for federal spending going up ever since Trump was inaugurated.
The DOGE contract cuts have mostly been illusory. Freezing grants was unlawful and enjoined, cutting funds to research universities doesn't move the needle much for reducing federal spending. If Republicans actually want to reduce spending, they would look to someone with experience of improving a business or enterprise rather than Musk who has no experience with that. Maybe they aren't actually interested in reducing spending...
I think they are actually interested in reducing spending. The problem is that they are also reducing revenue, by way more than they are reducing spending. The deficit will be going up, bigly.
