OP, I loved being DINK with my husband. I have one kid not planned. Catholics so we had her. Great kid and greatest joy of our lives! Most people adjust accordingly. They probably miss great travel. Kids grow up fast...so people might be temporarily miserable. If you had a superstar kid like mine, you'd be sad to miss out. If you have a bad one...you'd be sorry you had one.
