where are the forced birthers.. I mean pro-lifers on this thread? What say you? What if this was you, your wife, your sister?
Republicans recognize this is a losing issue. They are the proverbial dogs that caught the car and now don't know what to do. And so they are totally silent. But laws are laws. Republican judges and Republican legislators passed these draconian rules. It puts doctors in a terrible position. They can't help women with these laws. They'd all love to help a woman with a dead baby inside. But they can't without looking at years of prison. Republicans are just sweeping it aside and ignoring. The problem with Republicans is that they don't care until it happens to them. The single biggest characteristic of Republicans is a profound lack of empathy. Unfortunately, these people will not suddenly vote blue unless there's a personal impact. I mean it when I say no empathy. It is the defining characteristic of Republicans today.
The bolded is something I think about a lot and have for ages. I think it’s an essential difference between conservatives and liberals.
I hate to “well akshually” but they have empathy for people who they identify as in group, and none for out group. “Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.”
Who said this?
It’s literally a comment on a blog post from 2018. By Ohio composer Frank Wilhoit (not the political scientist Frank Wilhoit.) But so so good. As all encompassing as “the cruelty is the point” and “when fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.” https://slate.com/business/2022/06/wilhoits-law-conservatives-frank-wilhoit.html
