Charles promoted William to PoW the second the Queen passed. It’s petty of him to hold out on the Edinburgh title for his brother who by all accounts has served loyally.
Why didn’t the Queen give it away after Prince Philip died?
+1. It might be too soon after Philip’s death.
The title automatically passed to Charles upon Philip's death, as his eldest son, now that the title has merged with the Crown, Charles can create the title again, and pass it on.
I don’t think he’ll give it to Edward. He doesn’t like Edward and it goes against his long standing position of slimming down the extra royals. Sophie was trying so hard to get close to the Queen in hopes that she would intervene. I’m guessing that this won’t sway Charles. I think he will not fill it and leave it for William to give to his second son instead.
It does not work that way, the RF does not renege on promises and titles earmarked and communicated, publicly communicated might i add. Whatever decisions Charles makes will be for the next Gen, William and Harry's kids and forward. Also, William will have a lot of say in that decision because once you put rules in place for how you slim the monarchy, you're not going back.
I'm not sure. Since the title of Duke of Edinborough technically went to Charles upon Philips death (as eldest son) I think they needed to wait for Charles to ascend in order for all of his previous titles to become merged back into the crown. I think I read something about this. So it wasn't available to be given to someone else until the Queen passed away. We will see.
pp here. I don't disagree with you, i think it's just a matter of technicality why Edward does not have the title yet, there is no chance he does not get that title. Charles will not slim the monarchy by stripping titles or reneging on titles earmarked during his mothers reign. I think he'll change the criteria for who gets titles in the future.
I suspect we'll know shortly after the end of the mourning period if anything is changing for Edward or the Sussex kids.
No he’ll want and need the focus on himself not Edward or Harry. The delay will be attributed to waiting until after the coronation. As King the titles are his prerogative. Prince Philip had no power to grant it or promise it to anyone hence why it was only his wishes. There would be no reneging if Charles decided not to bestow it. The Queen could have done it but chose not to purposefully. Yes, Sophie is very, very thirsty for that title. Edward doesn’t seem to care, just wants to stay out of the press so he can stay in the closet.
