It’s pretty amazing how fast other states - dem states - are “heading for the off-ramp” to mandatory masking now, a mere couple weeks after Youngkin got the ball rolling. Of course, those Governors aren’t being attacked. And everyone has noticed that, whether they’ll admit it or not. This whole thing has aged terribly for dems. They’re playing catch-up AND throwing stones at the same time. Very awkward place to be in.
Nope. Not comparable at all. The D governors are just rolling back mandates. That’s not what Youngkin did. He told parents that they could ignore school rules. He illegally attempted to thwart local authority. That’s why there is a lawsuit. He overstepped his authority. Plus, those other governors waited until after the surge because they aren’t flaming a-holes.
This is not true. Many of these states currently have higher case rates than they had 6 or 7 months ago and kept mandates in place. It is political for them. Their focus groups and the polls are brutal and they need to do something to change the narrative.
Most of the mandates aren’t lifting until March/April. Plus, kids 5-11 weren’t vaccinated 6 months ago.
So? Kids are at almost no risk of bad outcomes from this virus. If this is what they are basing their decisions on (which they aren't), then they are not following the science. And, the mandates are ending immediately in some of these states. NY, for example. RI ends on Feb. 11. NJ and Connecticut ends theirs in a couple of weeks.
They are just lifting statewide mandates. Not overriding local decisions by telling parents they can ignore school rules.
It doesn't matter. They are not doing this because of "science." They are doing it because of "political science." They are late to the game. Glad they are seeing the light. But, let's be honest about why this is happening. Focus groups and polls.
That's a cute line but it's now been overused. What, at least a half dozen times on DCUM in the last day? Bottom line DOES remain that Dem governors waited until the omicron surge was in steep decline, so they did at least care about the data and the science. Republican governors were anti mask during right in the midst of the worst part of it and didn't care one iota about the data and the science. There is no "both sides" to it.
Exactly. The D governors waited until after 5-11 vaccines were available and the surges (delta, omicron) are over. AND they didn’t tell parents they could ignore school rules.
