No one goes into showcase games playing to lose considering that ECNL/DA showcase game results are counted toward overall playoff standings
Nobody ever plans on losing but again, trophies are not handed out unless a ECNL or DA playoff situation. So for a majority of the teams in ANY showcase the priority is playing everyone and playing well.
No, the priority is winning while attempting to give players time to be shown when feasible. Unlike in the past, the ECNL/DA showcases go towards standings. For example: Showcase games count towards teams' overall standings, and the slate of stellar showdowns at the event will prove critical to teams as they begin their final pushes towards the Girls' Academy's 32 playoff berths, awarded to the top three teams in each of seven divisions as well as 11 wild card teams. (Apr 18, 2019) I could go on about the DA CUP, etc. Do you really believe, for one second, that FCV plays friendlies to lose or experiment? They know exactly what they have. Their rosters are virtually unchanged year after year in the older age groups. You think Maryland United didn't play to beat FCV? You think VDA and Bethesda were just kicking the ball around while chasing butterflies and giggling? The games were played. The kids competed. The results are the results. Good, bad or indifferent. Would the results be the same in the future? Don't know and don't care. There are three results: Win / Lose / tie If it wasn't a blowout, then it was good competition. Period.
Again, scorelines of a single game are almost meaningless. This NFL season, the Super Bowl Champion KC Chiefs needs a last minute score to beat the 3-12-1 Detroit Lions. Only someone ignorant would argue those two teams are close in terms of results or talent BUT FOR THAT ONE GAME. This scenario repeats itself multiple times over a course of a season or tournament in every single sport at every level. So posting about a single game and then even more importantly, a friendly where intensity may not be there equally for both teams from both coaches and players (usually one team looking to prove something more than an other) is, to me, an indication of a poster that has not played or coached highly competitive sports. And DA and ECNL are highly competitive leagues. No matter what club you are carrying water for, this entire conversation around the results of friendlies is flat out a waste of time unless someone wants to post video and we can all see for ourselves what happened on the field. Anyone that truly knows and/or has played this game at a high level knows that one team can dominate the other and still lose. Soccer is that way.
