Nervous ECNL hats, listen up. The GA train is coming. More teams will join next year. You know why? U.S Soccer only recognizes GA and MLS Next and you just can’t beat that. ECNL hats are in the disbelief phase. Acceptance is next. Until then keep posting.
Hydraulic pressure from the boys side may well mean more teams will join GA, but will they be Elite? Adding more and more teams and that will help league finances for GA and MLSN, but will continue to dilute the product. Take NoVa. There are a lot of good players here, but enough to support seven+ “elite” teams? ECNL at least has understood that maintaining a luxury brand requires restricting supply.
GA and ECNL basically have the same number of clubs now.
The "watering down" comment is such ECNL hat nonsense. Adding more clubs to a league does nothing to other clubs if the new clubs are in areas currently unserved by the league. All you're doing is giving more players an opportunity to play at a high level. ECNL parents like to exclude to give their kid the only chance at xyz scholorship. Sorry it doesnt work that way any more. Cry about it all you want or start competing again.
Was NoVa underserved when 4 GA teams were added?
Undeserved by GA teams yes.
