In 2003, there were encampments against the Iraq war. Social media didn’t exist then so nobody really knew major protests were going on as the cable media barely touched on it. Major protests blocked the RNC convention traffic in NYC in 2004. Protests outside the White House happened daily. Those same young anti war protestors would vote for Sen Barack Obama in 2007/2008. They were right about the war being based on lies, right about it only creating more terror (ISIS), right about Abu ghraib prison scandal going to cause more attacks and terrorism. Right about Iran getting more militant to protect their own border and country from invasion The young kids were right then and they’re right now
This, there were definitely protests and no social media to amplify them. Also no social media to spread the truth narrative - that what the US was doing was wrong. The reason so many people support Palestine today is cause we are seeing with our own eyes what the main stream media doesn't show - just how horrible the Israeli attack on Gaza has been. And guess what else - no blacklists of people protesting the Iraq and no "congressional inquiries" into the protests - funny how that only happens when you protest one particular country.
