Dunn Loring ES on the fast track: https://www.gazetteleader.com/fairfax/news/fairfax-officials-fast-track-prep-work-for-dunn-loring-elementary-8291413 Supervisor Dalia Palchik (D-Providence) requested the expedited processing. Can someone explain to me why Fairfax County proposes to build new schools before they determine what the school boundaries will be?
When FCPS has built new schools in the past, construction typically is well underway before they determine the new boundaries. What's atypical here is that there's no need for this school; not a single school in the area around Dunn Loring is projected to be overcrowded. They are merely building it because Frisch wanted to make sure a school wasn't built in the Blake Lane area and the best way to ensure that was to commit to building a school somewhere else. Because it's an unnecessary school in the wrong location, it will trigger considerably more boundary changes that would otherwise be needed. It is the biggest boondoggle in FCPS in decades.
