Yeah... that is what their goal was, reportedly. 
But, when the VP of marketing comes out and essentially insults its customer base, then hires a divisive figure like Dylan Mulvaney to promote the product, there is naturally going to be an uproar.  It is hard to believe they did not see that coming.

Dylan can buy all the beer she wants.  But, they made a beer can with her face and had her promote it.  If Joe and Bob don't want to buy the beer that Dylan is pushing, that's on them.  Usually commercials are designed for the target audience.  I guess Dylan's supporters don't like beer.[/quote]
