Also, the families at some schools often gravitate toward one or the other. E.g., a lot of kids at Cathedral schools do Cotillion; the Holton/Landon kids tend to do Mrs. Simpsons.
What about the Catholic school kids? Where do they tend to go (if at all).
The "Catholic Cotillion" is run thru Georgetown Visitation. It is well attended.
Does one get invited to join the Catholic Cotillion?
If your child is in a MoCo or DC K-8 Catholic school they should be invited. The invitation is a very small white card that comes in the mail during the summer between 7th and 8th grade. It DOES NOT say "cotillion" and in fact is kind of vaguely worded. It does say Georgetown Visitation (I think GV Sodality if I remember correctly). The card will tell you to respond if interested and when the responses reach an appropriate mix of boys and girls (or something to that effect) they will send more information. If you RSVP you will later (I think in September???) get another card that lists the dates of cotillion. It is very easy to miss or throw away so be on the lookout for it. The kids love it. It meets at Visi on 8 Saturday nights from October - February. The instruction includes social as well as dancing. There is some discussion on how to behave when out on a date, attending a dance, etc. All the schools are there and afterward the kids descend on the McDonalds on Wisconsin avenue. It is a big deal to the kids that attend. The girls get VERY dressy (I was surprised at how dressy) and the boys wear suit and tie.
