UKRAINE, NOT THE UKRAINE. GODDAMN.
What's the difference? (this is a real questions, not a political argument)
It's just how things are called, PP. I'm French. I wouldn't want you calling my country "the France". It's called "France". It's "Great Britain", not "the Great Britain". However, it's "the United Kingdom". It's "Germany", not "the Germany". It's "Estonia", not "the Estonia". Using language incorrectly marks you as ignorant, and therefore less credible.
People are not ignorant, for most of the 20th century, English speakers referred to “the Ukraine". "The" Ukraine is from the Soviet era, after 1991 - Ukraine. More about the name: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Name_of_Ukraine#:~:text=The%20use%20of%20%22the%20Ukraine,no%20official%20alternative%20long%20name.
DROP IT. You are ignorant TODAY. You've been told on multiple media for weeks how to call this country. Heave the remnants of what passes for your brain out of the 20th century and stop making idiotic remarks.
It can be reffered to however the speaker would like. What the Ukrainians like is not really all that important.
Huh?!
