The only thing that’s not quite ringing true to me is how jealous the one girl is of her friend and how her friend is hiding her waiter boy, but maybe they’ll explain why. Or maybe it’s just been too long since I was a teen girl.
The thing that is not ringing true to me is the relationship between the newlyweds - Rachel and whatever the douchey husband's name is. It's like they don't even know each other. it's weird.
In the scene by the pool where she’s talking to the disdainful younger girls, she tells them that they got married quickly, essentially because “Shane knows what he wants” (paraphrasing). They sarcastically suggest that he pay off her large student loans, and she pretends that she hadn’t thought of that. When it’s clear that they are mocking her, she ends the conversation and strips down to her bikini in front of them in a clearly deliberately sexy way, and it has the desired effect (jealousy). I thought that scene revealed a lot about their relationship. Rachel may be sweet and naive in some ways, but she married him for money and knows that he married her for looks without many deeper issues being explored. That becomes a problem for her quickly, but not him.
I didn’t really think there was much for the girls to be envious of. Rachel wasn’t enough of a bombshell to carry it off.
She got the desired reaction from Olivia.
Didn’t seem believable. They should have cast someone else as Rachel, then. I was honestly confused at first about the reaction because it seemed so unlikely.
If she had been too much of an obvious bombshell, the rest of the character wouldn’t have worked. There had to be just enough insecurity there for her to care about her career that much, or to have been swept away by Shane in the first place.
