I feel dirty when I read how much I may benefit from Trump's tax plan and now maybe school voucher program. I feel terrible because I know the cost it will be for others. But then I think, "this is what America wanted!"
And why do you feel bad about these things? If trump's tax plan is in place I can expand my business and hire 1-3 new staff people. Isn't that a GOOD thing? And what's wrong with failing public schools, bad teachers and bloated school bureaucracies having people vote with their feet and leave? Do you really care more about the bad schools than the kids who are suffering there? I just don't get all this pesdimism, but I realize that being a liberal democrat requires a measure of guilt and self loathing
As a product of public schools, I find the myth of bloat to be so annoying. Public school are running on shoestring budgets and have cutback on so many things and just teach to the test. Appalling!
I think what PP was referring to is that the poorest schools get the most money thrown at them and still remain poor performers. The wealthy schools run on shoestrings (my friend's parents have to bring her paper for God's sake), yet still do well academically. A lot of this has to do with the administration and frankly, the parents of the children.
DCPS is the ultimate example. The worst schools get the shiny new buildings and the higher per capita funding. And, surprise surprise, they remain bad. It's nuts.
