In truth, the horse trading from the cheap seats over which middle school teams are best or best for recruiting is silly. My son is now a HS senior and his brother is in 8th grade. I've been very disappointed to see kids drop this and other sports all over the weaning process that people get wound up about to position to be recruited by colleges. It takes too much of the enjoyment out of sports for the kids, and that is a shame. [/quote]

ITA with this.  My son plays JV on a VERY strong private school team.  He is a decent player but has no aspirations to play in college, therefore not looking to get recruited.  Frankly, his strong academic performance will ensure his admittance into his choice school.   But the tension I see from the parents of the more serious players looking to get recruited is worrisome.  The poor kids who must feel enormous from parents and coaches alike.   Glad my son has a more realistic sense of what it means to enjoy playing sports in high school.[/quote]
