Refugees are different from the economic migrants crowding into Europe and illegal immigrants.  It is abhorrent that we simply sit by while these people suffer.

It's not about TB. It's about overcrowding in schools that already face enough obstacles.  The higher-ranked schools won't be seeing refugees anytime soon.  I lived through that period a few years ago when our school - 75% FARMs- absorbed "only" 40 kids. We had to hire another teacher (who was terrible) and then all hell broke loose with rival gang activity.

It's so easy to say, "Let's take everyone in." But unless you're the one dealing with the kids and knowing that YOUR school is the one who will suffer in program cuts b/c allocations are shifted from one area to another, don't pretend to talk FOR me.

Refugees are deliberately placed and assisted and funded.  You are confusing immigration and overcrowding and refugees.

The experiences that are affecting schools that are already in trouble may not all result in gang violence.  However, the overcrowding and higher rates of poverty and transience and absenteeism and - (Should I go on??) will ultimately affect quality of instruction.

My kids are at an extremely diverse and yes overcrowded school with a high FARMs rate. I'm happy that they are going to school with kids from all over the world, with many languages spoken and many religions observed. I think the knowledge of the world my kids are gaining from their classmates will more than make up for any effects of overcrowding and help them get along with every type of person once they are in the workforce. Education doesn't get any richer than this. [/quote]
