My AC died yesterday afternoon and the indoor temp went up to 77. That may not seem bad to most people, but heat literally makes me sick, always has. I can't imagine being pregnant and putting up with that, especially with another child. Apparently, everyone's AC seemed to go out this week. We have the top level service plan with a large HVAC company, and they were so swamped I was told (yesterday) no one was available until late tonight. Fortunately, an appointment freed up this morning and the tech found a bad capacitor in the outside unit, which he replaced. It was up to 83 inside by then and I was in really bad shape. I hope the OP gets some sleep tonight. It's supposed to get up to 95 tomorrow - unbearable. Anyone who does not have working AC is in danger. I hope there are places set up in DC to take in the less fortunate. One takeaway - unlike a lot of generic service plans (most of which are useless), we've found that our HVAC plan is really worth the investment. We always seem to have at least one emergency call each year; not only do we get priority service, but the repair cost is almost always free and generally covers the cost of the plan. Something else that may seem obvious to the rest of the world, but it took me a long time to figure out - light bulbs can generate a whole lot of heat. Turning off most lights in the home can really help keep your home cooler.
