I will blame the crappy educational system which encourages the dumbing down of most of our country. Educated people will not vote for Trump for the most part. The rest of the world cannot believe Americans are this stupid but this is our reality.
Polls do not seem to bear this out, though. I agree with your sentiment, as I am truly perplexed by support for Trump. The person I thought would be most likely to be pro-Trump, my FIL, thinks he's a complete loon and frightening for our country. I have never felt so alienated and out-of-touch from a large bloc of Americans as I currently feel...I know a pretty politically diverse set of people, and I don't know a single Trump supporter. Or at least not one that admits it. And, like I said, the people I would most have expected to support Trump hate him, so my basic understanding of who his supporters might be seems to be off as well. Almost any other area of policy or politics where I have a firm conviction, I can at least see and intellectually understand the other side (part of growing up in a very conservative household but turning out to be quite liberal, I guess). I have no understanding of why people support Trump, but they obviously do. And there are enough people who do that it can't be that they are all stupid or uneducated or unapologetic bigots or whatever names you want to call them. I wish there were some polite way of asking this question in real life, but obviously there isn't.
The only Trump supporters I have met are truly just stupid people. I would love to meet just one who can explain, in an intelligent way, how he or she thinks this lunatic is qualified to be president.
For me personally, I find comments like this telling of the liberal personality as a whole. Studies show they're more likely to stop being friends with someone who they don't share political ideals with. The show they're incapable of listening to other ideas or feel threatened their positions won't stand up to scrutiny in a marketplace of free ideas. Just look on college campuses. When I went o college, people would protest - and they have that right. But they wouldn't willingly stop a speaker from being there or willingly get violent. The past decade, the amount of times liberals have tried to shut down free speech as campuses is amazing.
That is because, for most "liberals," bigotry is a deal breaker for friends. I am ok with people who are fiscally conservative but those who would support a bigot like Trump are either evil or stupid or both. The other thing is that Trump has NO IDEA how to be president. He doesn't even understand the constitution. So I am thinking that most Trump supporters are just plain stupid, whereas Cruz supporters were probably the evil ones.
So...you're causing someone of bigotry and you paint two groups of people as stupid and evil. Based on their candidate of choice? So all those Latino or black voters who are voting for Trump are also bigots and stupid? Thanks again for proving my point. In a marketplace of free ideas, liberal ideology doesn't stand up to scrutiny. So easy to use buzzwords to avoid debate are thrown out because it's intellectually lazy and easy. More to the point - if Trump is so racist and his ideas are so bad, let it go. The UK let the UKIP party have all the air time it wanted and you know what? People didn't like what they had to say and didn't vote for them. Problem is, people like Trumps ideas. There's nothing wrong with having common sense border security (which Hillary was for before she changed her mind), screening of people trying to enter the country who come from places known for terrorism (Like Jimmy Carter did), or taking China to task on the large trade deficit and calling Hillary out on her support for TPP (which many Democrats were against). But of course those should be censored by claims of bigotry and racism when none really exists.
You just said that the PP believes that black and latino voters who support Trump are stupid. I'm the PP, but YES!
Sorry, I meant to say that I wasn't the PP. Sorry PP.
