PP whose psychiatrist did the research here - I hear you. No anecdotal experience, since we haven't tried it yet. Half of me feels like it doesn't hurt to try, the other half feels nervous exposing my baby to such a stimulant. Does anyone know, if I went the pump and dump route, how long should I wait for it to clear? I take regular, not extended release, and it usually feels out of my system after 3.5-4 hours. For PPs who say wean, I like to nurse, she's a great eater, and it's convenient, free, etc. Per my doctor, I'm not convinced it's medically necessary to wean, and if so, if it's worth losing the breastfeeding relationship. It's a hard decision!
I know it's hard - I am different than PP, and I liked to nurse, my daughter was a good eater, the convenience was AMAZING, and I was sad to give up the breastfeeding, but it was what was best for my baby. Even if you can't prove that taking adderall and breastfeeding is harmful to your baby's brain and body, there's at least a chance it may be harmful, so it wasn't worth it to me to take that chance just so I could enjoy breastfeeding & take my adderall. So when it was time to go back on the meds, I dropped breastfeeding. I miss it, but then I remind myself that I'm not feeding my daughter amphetamines - in however small quantities. I guess you have to assess how much your are BF'ing for you, and how much you are doing it for your baby. Personally, I wasn't comfortable with the unknowns and potential for harm, especially since my own doctors didn't recommend it. It wasn't worth it to me.
But this can apply to anything - including formula. For example, there are more studies proving that formula can have long term ill effects on a baby than there are proving that Adderall can. I'm not saying this means it's a slam dunk that I should take the adderall by any means, but the fact is that the research does not exist on adderall (and the documented anecdotes suggest an absence of harm) so it's a judgment call. I certainly see why other people make the judgment call of weaning, but the bolded logic is never particularly persuasive to me because its logical extension is ridiculous.
