Hi i have this disease. It has taken over my life. Im worried every day about it and how i will cope if i lose all my hair. Sorry i cant offer anything positive but im all out of positivity x kate
Hi Kate - I know how you feel. I've been battling it for 23 years - started when I as 14. At 20 I lost it all - head to toe and it was devastating. I was dating an amazing guy who didn't care and a family that supported me. I hope you have a great group around you. My dermatologist was SHOCKED beyond shocked when my hair grew back after total loss. Said that was very usual. I've had every blood test done under the sun and have tried every treatment. Naturopaths, washing my hair in cayenne, etc. I just don't want you to lose hope. I keep trying and trying. I have lost my head hair 3 times now and I've currently had it for 6 years (thinning on and off a lot). Recently I was looking for wigs again because I knew it was going again...but decided not to give up yet. I tried a new dermatologist and she has me trying new things. Rogaine (I fought this for years because I figured it wouldn't help NEW hair grown, but it does), biotin, Vit D (I live in Seattle and it's a huge factor for alopecia here), Allegra, and she want to put me on a blood pressure medicine that also tested in a study to help hair regrowth. I believe it's called spironolactone. I just don't want you giving up or losing hope. I know it's hard to stay positive, I've been there for years, but know you do have a community of people who have alopecia that support you!
