I have some friends whose kids were given full ride scholarships based on the IB diploma.

Also, make sure the teachers writing the recommendations are picked carefully. You want teachers who know your child and who will write a nice and honest recommendation. My child actually picked 2 of the 3 teachers from classes where she struggled, but worked hard (math was one of them). The teachers knew she worked hard and wrote a recommendation to fit the bill.
