I am a CMI parent who was up in a tizzy over the website before my child was at the school. I can now honestly say ignore the site--it is no indication of how children of color are treated. I am AA and my child is welcome and treated well. As for the Head of School being ethnic I think that is irrelevant. I have witnessed lots of ethnic minorities who are not inclusive and view Blacks and "poors" with disdain. I Have not witnessed CMI Head behaving that way just saying that her ethnicity is not necessarily relevant. Culturally CMI may not work for parents who are used to more discipline and structure in the classroom. They may prefer a DC Prep or KIPP school. I think a lot of you are condescending and dismissive of EOTR parents' ability to research and decide what works for them. There are a number of first and high second tier schools out there besides the ones often mentioned here.
+1 million. I'm a white CMI parent but I can tell you that there are several kids in my daughter's class who live in SE or Brentwood or other typically low SES neighborhoods, but whose parents are motivated and active and interested. That's why they're there. It's so condescending to assume that white, low SES, EOTP and EOTR folks can't also sacrifice (in terms of very long commutes) for the sake of a school that fits their kid.
