http://www.bethesdamagazine.com/Bethesda-Beat/2014/North-Bethesda-Or-Rockville/
I'll summarize, if you don't live in actual Bethesda you live in Rockville, unless your coworker in the secretarial pool is a judgy bitch and then you can call it North Bethesda.
I live in 20852 and am SO sick of this policing of the term "North Bethesda" as meaning 20852-ers are trying to latch on to your Bethesda "prestige." When people ask where I live and I say "Rockville" they immediately think of the area around downtown Rockville which is a 20 minute drive from me and three metro stops away. 20852 is several miles south of the actual municipality that is the "City of Rockville." When I say "North Bethesda," whether they think of the northern part of Bethesda or the area that "realtors call" North Bethesda, they *actually have a much better idea of where I actually live.*. We are two metro stops from downtown Bethesda and it's quicker to get there than to downtown Rockville. Not that I spend my time in downtown Bethesda trying to pollute the fancy people -- I'd much rather drive to Silver Spring! -- but the point is people may be saying "North Bethesda" because it communicates their actual location better, not to leach your prestige. So get over yourselves, please.
