In Bethesda, you can try Union Jacks on Friday and Saturday nights after 10pm.  It is a very unusual crowd for Bethesda -- very diverse racially with many different ages represented.  I went a couple of times with groups of friends and while I was older than the majority of the crowd, there were plenty of people my age there, too.  I'm 50.  In fact, I even met a couple of really good looking, nice men.  Union Jacks at the Rio also has a mixed age crowd.  I had guys asking me to dance at both locations.

The Harp and Fiddle also has an older crowd.  But most of the guys that hang around in a bar over the age of 50 tend to be a little odd -- unless they are there with a group of friends.

The bar at Clyde's Tower Oaks is pretty good on Fridays for happy hour.

For a different crowd, great music, and a dive bar vibe -- check out Hank Dietl's on Rockville Pike on Rockabilly Night.  They have some great bands.  Their drink and food menu is limited to what you'd get in a Frat house basement, but it's a true departure from the regular bar scene in MoCo.

As other PPs have mentioned, the swing dancing and contra dancing at the Ballroom at Glen Echo are great. Usually they have free lessons at the beginning of the dance.  I know several women who met their husbands there.  There is no air conditioning -- so the summer dances can be a sweaty nightmare.  Fall is a great time to go.[/quote]
