There was some 1970s influence in the 1990s but there was still originality going on.

Here is a picture of Air Jordans from 1994.
Nobody in the 1970s was wearing basketball shoes that looked like that.

Repeating fashion is a generous term.
What millennials have done with fashion in the past 15 years is outright theft.
