VERY true.  LOL!  He was a White Liberal in a predominantly AA Liberal city.  But look at it this way.  He was loved all over the city because he was able to relate to whoever he was talking to - make them feel as if he was there for them.  He had a gift that way.  He was White and a lot of AA people voted for him.  [/quote]

Phil  Mendelson is an unflashy, white, nerdy council chairman who sweats a lot of non-headline grabbing issues.  Despite many candidates who have tried to knock him off (some of whom have used race-based dog whistles to do so), Phil has always run strong in virtually all areas of the city.  He doesn't have Clarke's charisma, but people get that he works hard and cares about making Washington better.[/quote]
