OP here. Thank you all for your feedback. I should emphasize that I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with what he ate, but it was the fact that I had left specific instructions. I knew it was a mistake since it was the first time that it happened, but I just assumed that this potentially could be a big deal because of allergies. We do in fact have a family history of food allergies, and have been introducing our kid to foods really slowly in a controlled setting. I think yesterday when I went to pick him up, I was tired and stressed. I work full time, I'm submitting my final dissertation in a week, and now my kid ate something I didn't know how he would react to. On top of that, they were about to toss out a whole bottle of pumped breastmilk that he didn't need since he had eaten those carrots. And indeed, he puked twice in the middle of the night (obviously could be for other reasons, but nothing else indicates why he would vomit). This morning it was a simple conversation with his daycare teacher, and another lady chimed in who said she had given him the carrots. All of the kids in his carpet were eating them, and she assumed he ate them too. We will just continue to keep our instructions clear on the daily sheet. And the conversation ended there. I'm tired. I'm stressed. And this is my first time doing all this. I know stuff happens at daycare (I wouldn't want a nanny, as I love the culture of being in a daycare), but I do want to understand what's normal and what's not.
What normal is in about 6 months your child will be eating his own poop from the floor. Get over it and move on.
Uh, what? No, it's not normal for a kid to eat his own poop.
