Teach a child to read write and understand the basic building blocks of math and they have the skill to teach themselves almost anything as they go thru life. That was the point of public education. That's why pub ed exists so all kids get these life skills, not just the children of elites. Public Ed is one of the great accomplishments of western civilization. Some feel that knowing how to properly handle and respect a firearm is a skill that may save your life.  Do you think that MCPS should be teaching children those skills as well.  My guess is that if the NRA's Eddie Eagle spoke at your kid's school, you'd be outraged and asking "Why are we getting away from reading, writing, and arithmetic?" [/quote]
