Yes, look near downtown Silver Spring (20910). Houses in your range come up in North Woodside (bordered by 16th/Seminary/Brookeville/train tracks). East Silver Spring (roughly bordered by Georgia/Wayne/Dale) has better walkability than North Woodside, somewhat less desirable ES, but still good (at least, my friends with kids there are happy!) There are other possibilities in 20910, so check it out. I like it here.
We're in East Silver Spring. An easy 10 minute walk to Whole Foods, the new amazing public library, and tons of restaurants (Urban Butcher, Urban Winery, Jamaican restaurant, and a ton of Ethiopian places). Also an easy 15-20 minute walk to the Metro both ways (TP and SS). The ES is perfectly fine, full of a mix of middle-class kids from Blair and Sligo Park Hills neighborhods, and working class families from the rest of the boundary. There are lots of immigrants, so lots of diversity and families that were professionals back home and moved to give their kids a chance at a better life in the US. The neighborhood is small, and houses move fast, but here's a place that just sold and is pretty representative of houses in the area: http://www.zillow.com/homes/for_sale/37278247_zpid/38.990599,-77.012728,38.986154,-77.023199_rect/16_zm/0_mmm/1_rs/?view=map
