It's a little late but I will try to reply everyone now - thank you for your questions! And once again no, I will not be doing any readings in this thread, sorry. For those who have questions about spirit guides, you're not a "random person", nobody is. You're timeless. We're all spiritual beings having a physical experience, but some souls choose not to have the physical experience at this time and instead help you from the other side. They are souls that have probably been with you for a long time, over many lifetimes; perhaps you were their spirit guide once and they're returning the favor! There is no occult-isn "tie" that binds a spirit guide to you; they agreed to be your guide in this life before you were born. As for why I found being a psychic stressful, well I worked for a psychic phone service business. They put you through two tarot card reading tests to see if you can really make predictions, and that was fine. But it was not a well managed business, there was a lot pressure to drum up enough business to meet my (then huge) expenses since DH was unemployed and I had a family to take care of and student loans to pay off, and to be honest the customers could be a pain in the ass to deal with. I know now that as an easily overwhelmed introvert, it was tough to be on the phone with customers all day, especially when they need both a therapist and a psychic. I am a kind person and helping my customers is the most gratifying part of the business, but it can get overwhelming sometimes when you have a lot on your own plate and the person on the phone insists on me telling her that she has a future with her unfaithful deadbeat boyfriend despite my reading being the opposite, and then crying for 10 minutes and later finding out she was billed the entire time and demanding a refund. I want to emphasize that I do enjoy helping people but the truth is people come to psychics in their times of distress, suffering, and worry. If you give them a prediction, they often call back again and again for reassurances. You really do function as a therapist and because you don't charge all that much for your time, you need to work long hours to make ends meet. I finally gave up and got a nice 9-5 office job, which paid the bills better although it was not as emotionally and spiritually productive. Regarding loss and reincarnation: I always say when you lose a loved one, you gain an angel. I can tell you that I have seen enough to know that reincarnation isn't a theory, it's as real as the oxygen I am breathing now. Of course this isn't the time and place for a theological debate, but I have been asked this specific question so I'll answer it. My personal favorite reincarnation story was when a repeat customer came to me searching for the spiritual source of her inability to have children. She was in her early thirties and had been trying with her husband for years. I picked up a lot of details about a previous life in New England in the nineteenth century, when she had been a man and a bit of a rake I'm afraid - womanizing left and right. In her past life she got a lot of women pregnant, and forced them to have abortions. I was able to pick up specific details about this life - birth date, home town, house, various other years associated with the life time, profession, the man's family life, the love affairs, etc. Enough details that my customer reported she had actually visited the town afterwards and done a little digging, and found out that this man really had existed. It was mind-blowing for her. (I am obviously not going to divulge any identifying details about this case.) I know someone asked about deja vu and I would suggest recording each instance of deja vu as it happens as later on if you ever try past life regression, you may find that instances of deja vu are actually memories from a past life (or this life - hypnotic regression takes us back through our current life as well). Our souls' memories exist in a place where time and space can't restrict anything. No I am not certified by any authority and am not associated with any spiritualist community or church in the DC area. If you are experiencing precognitive dreams or other indications of psychic ability but can't control them or make them consistent, all it takes is practice! Meditate every day, consciously asking your higher self to connect with you, until you feel your palms tingling. Record all your dreams, and also all the impressions you make throughout the day. If you get intuitive insights through touch, then ask to borrow items belonging to friends to see if you can practice on them. Retreat to a quiet space (without an audience!) and take as much time as you want to just focus on the object in your hands. It can help to directly ask it questions too. If you live in a state where marijuana is legal, I can say that marijuana greatly enhances this ability. What really takes practice is to make sure that your rational "left brain" doesn't filter out your intuitive thoughts. We often get these gut, instinctive feelings about people and situations throughout and dismiss them based on our rational thoughts - the same applies to psychic insights. Oh and someone asked about real intuition versus anxious/depressive thoughts: good question! We all make that mistake sometimes. I would pay attention to the source of your thought - does it have its roots in some prior experience or is it unconnected to the situation? Is your breathing rapid, shallow, or held tight? I would also spend time understanding what makes you afraid and the roots of your depressive thoughts. You can choose to ignore your psychic abilities of course, although it can be really hard if they are well developed. There's nothing wrong with choosing to ignore them. My mother did exactly that. And yes, most of the time I can recognize other psychics or empaths, usually by looking in their eyes. But it's not a very deep connection and we don't try to read each other; you just get the vibe and move on. I am not pagan. I was born in a mainstream Abrahamic religion and continue to follow it - you'd be surprised to learn that all the Abrahamic religions have believed in reincarnation in the past. It is not exclusively a concept of Eastern religions or pagans. I have no problem with people of different religions and cultures. We're all a big family really, and our physical and cultural traits are really superficial layers that we'll shed when this life is over. Someone asked if I have ever approached someone to validate any reading I had on them - yes I did when I was a pre-teen still learning about my abilities and "validating" the ability so that I could convince myself it was real. It used to creep me out as much as them!
