I wonder if everyone who applies will get into Basis for 5th again this year. As long as this keeps happening, Brent doesn't have a middle school problem. My oldest is at Latin, and from what I hear, Brent kids are doing great at both Latin and Basis!
And yet another poster makes my point for me. No one is saying Brent kids aren't doing well. If course, so are other kids but let's set that aside for a moment. What happens when more ES kids across the city stay after K? And then through 5? And then want to stay in the city? That's happening now. MS demand is going up. IB Brent us going to have a problem if there is no natural feeder option.
Why are you so concerned about Brent families, their MS options and property values? Seems very odd. It's great that you are IB for a SH feeder and wish you well. Hopefully the Kiddos living IB for LT, JO Wilson and the Cluster decide to stay through 5th and finally make SH majority IB, especially when so many opted for Brent when they had the chance. Perhaps your time is better spent on figuring out how to improve SH and its feeder schools, not worrying about the issues Brent parents face after Fourth Grade. Be assured that we'll continue to figure things out on our own despite what passes for logical decisionmaking at DCPS and the Mayor's office. One more thing: why do you think the Cluster principal has been working so hard to recruit Brent students for SH via Watkins? Food for thought.
Because there's only so much BS and self centered drivel an innocent bystander can take before impulse takes over. Watching Brent parents act like they are the only ones on the Hill or that their kids magically bring goodness and light to any environment is a little tough to take when it discounts the existence (if not intrinsic value) of the rest of the Hill and Hill schools. And to watch it come from Jonny come latelies who have been on the Hill for (at best) 10 years is more than I can take. So I decided to launch a bit of reality into the discussion. I'd note that not all of your Brent friends seem committed to improving MS options. "I'll never send my kids to Jefferson", etc. They seem to be sitting back blaming the DCPS and relying on Charters off the Hill to solve their problems. The irony for long time Hill watchers is thick. Brent only became what it is because of the significant efforts of Brent families to take matters into their own hands. Seems like the current generation of Brent parents thinks that one day DCPS magically bestowed a great school on them. That's NOT how it happened. As to the Cluster question, there it is again. In reality Watkins wants Brent families...and JO and LT. But they don't have anything to offer JO or LT parents because they all feed into SH. But you illustrate my point. Brent kids aren't the panacea. It's just a soft target because it's close and has the SH hook.
Thanks for speaking truth to power, or whatever it is you think you are trying to accomplish. Go seek out therapy for your Brent fixation, or at least get out and exercise. Thanks for your concern, but we'll be okay, I promise.
