I've lived in NOVA most of my life and went to UVA. I've honestly never heard or known of anyone who chose GMU over UVA. They aren't even in the same league. The only exception might be if you don't have money for room and board and need to live at home. GMU is a fine school but choosing GMU over UVA for computer science doesn't make sense if the goal is to the most highly ranked school. There is no subject at GMU that ranks higher than UVA. Period. This is the strangest thread ever.....
Just stop. U. Va. is on probation in the hearts and minds of humankind with all the crap that's happened there over the past year. A double dose of hubris won't help matters at all. Period.
PP here. If students are turning down UVA based on the recent incidents I doubt the next school on the list is GMU. There are A LOT of other instate schools that rank ahead of GMU. I have nothing against GMU and chances are my DS will probably go there but people aren't turning down UVA to go to GMU.
Did it ever cross your mind that some choose quality education and job prospects over the "prestige" of a name? Is rather my child be sitting in an office with a six figure salary immediately after graduation than job-hunting with his nose in the air.
Six figure salary? Yeah, man.
