I don't want to hijack this thread, so I'm going to start another. My middle-school kid may go next year to a school that is tech-heavy and where the kids need phones. I want to hear from BTDT parents of middle and high schoolers what their iPhone contracts with their kids entail, before I buy that darn phone. I'd appreciate it if you have a great contract, to clue us newbies in, and if you left anything out that you wish you had included, to tell us what. TIA!
I was walking outside my 15 year old school the other day where I can see through a classroom window. A kid sitting in the back was watching a movie on his smartphone, pretending he was filming the lecture. What this all social media has done is making kids more and more responsible for how they turn out in life and they need to know it. You or the neighbor down the street cannot lookout for them like in old time. The floodgates has been open, where we land is everyone's guess. The have access to a lot of things but not the wisdom that time infuse. You're no longer your brothers keeper. My advise, try not to have a latchkey kid if you can. My neighbors (both highly accomplished) DS has been addicted to porn since 13. It has affect his academic, drive, social life in every way possible.
