Close Marks

My guess is that they ultimately base these closings on the abilities of high school drivers (shudder). I know that the day FCPS did NOT close, he saw a spun-out kid's car on the way to Woodson. So I propose that on "iffy" (hardly) days like this, they tell students who drive that they must take the bus or be driven by an adult. If any idiot or his parents wants to send him out in the car anyway, that is their problem. A 16-year-old in a sports car who has never driven in snow shouldn't shut down the largest school system in the area.
Interesting thought. They could say "all HS parking lots and streets in front are closed to students" -- that would force them to ride the bus or be dropped off by a parent. They all have a way to get home on the buses. Whatever inconvenience there is from not havign a car in the evening is outweighed by getting kids of all ages to school for education.
Not necessarily true. Where my niece goes to school if you are not on their bus list, you can't ride. And the stops are set up for the rodents who rue the bi, not all those who live on the route. So this type of thing would require a complete overhaul of how their buses are setup. And possibly more drivers and buses that would be mostly unused throughout the year.
Is she a walker? If so, again, it's up to the parents to get their kid to school if it's within a mile. I walked nine-tenths of a mile in Western Mass. when I was in *kindergarten* and survived (uphill both ways, I should add). If your niece's family took her off the bus list because she wanted to drive all year, no sympathy here.
