Because this nation was founded on the concept of religious freedom and protection from prosecution for practicing one's religion.  The first European immigrants, our founding fathers (and mothers), fled here from religious persecution and wanted a home where they could practice their own religions without interference from the government or the majority.  For those who have a legitimate religious exemption, they have the right to practice their religion and not be forced by the government into having to choose between practicing their religion and educating their children.  However, I do believe that the true number of those who deserve religions exemptions is a small minority of those who claim religious exemptions.  I think the majority of those claiming religions exemptions are ignorant or misguided fools like Jenny McCarthy who only look for answers to support their fears rather than looking at the research around those answers (like the people who still contend that thimerisol is an issue).[/quote]
