IMHO the uniforms send  a message that "we have to hold the reins very tight to maintain discipline in our urban school."  If this is the message -- among other challenges --  it any wonder that only 13% of the in-bounds population chooses Hardy?[/quote]I believe the arguments in favor included removing the focus on personal dress and the attendant inequality it encourages; that Hardy kids would be recognizable if they misbehaved in public and conversely would not be mistaken for other kids (maybe Deal students?) who misbehaved; that it would make life easier to not have to select an outfit everyday.; that attention should be focused on school above all. The usual kinds of arguments people make in favor of uniforms. [/quote]
