+1.  I see it more as, "a special day to celebrate motherly things and people."  I mean, your grandmother isn't your mother, but there are plenty of grandmother cards on Mothers Day.

My closest relatives aren't blood relatives.  My closest aunt and cousins are actually my mom's BFF from HIGH SCHOOL and her kids.  Blood isn't everything.[/quote]

My mom re-married when I was in my mid-30's. My stepfather has no bio-kids. However, he is a GF to our kids. He loves my mother, is generous and kind to our entire family AND  is crazy wild about my DH. I could care less that he is not my bio father. I am an adult and know the difference between 2 people. As an adult, I also know that love is not limited to biology and that my bucket of love and kindness is infinite. I can express love and family connections to my step-dad without taking away from my father. My husband has a married, childless aunt who is like another mother to him. WE ALL send her mother's day cards.  Mother's and Father's Day (in my opinion) is meant to celebrate the SPIRIT of those who operate in those roles, loving, kind, supportive, and advisory! Don't skimp on the love because of a lack of common DNA. [/quote]
