Has anyone provided documentation of where DC BASIS is being sued?
No. It' just anti-BASIS and perhaps anti-Charter propaganda. Registration forms are due on May 1, and it appears as if someone is determined to mount a one-person FUD campaign to discourage prospective families from registering, i.e., "BASIS will be shut down soon because it is not providing FAPE to ALL children..." BASIS is doing just fine and will survive scrutiny. It looks as if they failed to abide by some rules last year regarding the documentation of IEPs, and they might even have failed to provided services to some kids last year. They also managed to have great DCCAS scores in their first year of operation and are on track to be one of the two best performing charter middle/high schools in the city. It's unreasonable to throw the baby out with the bathwater, especially in a city with such a dearth of good middle and high schools. If BASIS is found to have erred last year, they will be ordered to provided compensatory services this year.
