I would leave medicine in a heart beat if I thought I could make a great salary doing something else.  There is no way I would find another job where I make 300k a year and get 14 days off a month.  My field is high stress and worry about potentially losing my house/assets in a malpractice suit.  I can't wait to leave medicine and move to a field where I don't have to worry about being sued every day.  I have to pay off my student loans and house first though.

OP, what will your husband's salary be if he goes to work with family now?  Is it enough to maintain your lifestyle?  If the family business unexpectedly goes bankrupt, would your husband be happy with his decision to leave medicine or would he have lots of regrets? You are right in that a very specialized physician will never be able to go back to his practice after 10 years. Too much changes and he would loose his skills.  Maybe if he worked once a week or PRN he could maintain some of his skills while still doing the family business?[/quote]
