A quick Google search will educate you on the reality that tobacco-associated mortality and cancer rates are just as high in other developed countries (those that actually measure these things) as the U.S.

Long, drawn out, painful, ugly, debilitating, awful process. I'm actually surprised that more smokers haven't had loved ones die of lung cancer or COPD...it's a horrible thing to go through and it's equally horrible to watch someone you love go through it. I'm happy for the OP that she's living in a la-la land where her "social smoking" doesn't smell or do any damage to her body. At some point, reality will hit, and she'll realize that she was a moron.
